Getting Here

  • By Bus: VTA Buses (#5) run to Aquinnah (Gay Head) parking lot, from the bus stop walk down to the beach.
  • By Car: Parking fee $15 (Summer), Free after 5:00 PM. Locked after 11 PM.
    To get the beach itself you will take a winding trail (7-10 minutes) from parking lot down to the wooden boardwalk [entrance]; Another option for a driver would be dropping off passengers by the entrance, parking your car up the hill then walking down.

Remote area, walking distance and "clothing optional" beach by the Cliffs makes it a great beach for adults or young adults, but not the best for bringing children.

Beach Access

Gay Head Beach (Moshup Beach) is open for public and beach permit is not required.
There are two types of beaches on Martha's Vineyard: Public and Restricted.

  • Public - beaches can be accessed by anyone
  • Restricted - accessible only to island residents or visitors who are renting a vacation home located near the beach - a beach permit (car parking sticker) or beach pass is needed.
